How to solve Quadratic Equations for Bank, SSC Exams
In this method, we find the Roots of the Quadratic Equation using Factorizing Method.
Let’s solve a Quadratic Equation to study this method in detail.
Example: Solve x2 + 5x + 6 = 0
⇒ x2 + 5x + 6 = 0
⇒ x2 + 3x + 2x + 6 = 0
⇒ x (x+3) + 2(x+3) = 0
⇒ (x+2) (x+3) = 0
⇒ x+2 = 0 OR x+3 = 0
⇒ x = -2 OR x = -3
Thus, the Roots of the Quadratic Equation are: -2, -3
Now, let’s check if our answer is correct. For this, we will check whether our answer satisfies the Quadratic Equation.
Let’s check for x = -3
= (–3)2 + 5(–3) + 6 = LHS
= 9 – 15 + 6
= 15 – 15
= 0
= RHS
Let’s check for x = -2
= (–2)2 + 5(–2) + 6 = LHS
= 4 – 10 + 6
= 10 – 10
= 0
= RHS
Thus, both our answers Satisfy the Quadratic Equation which means our answer is correct.
Let’s solve another Quadratic Equation.
Example: Solve x2 – 2x – 3 = 0
⇒ x2 – 2x – 3 = 0
⇒ x2 + x – 3x – 3 = 0
⇒ x (x+1) – 3(x+1) = 0
⇒ (x-3) (x+1) = 0
⇒ x-3 = 0 OR x+1 = 0
⇒ x = 3 OR x = -1
You can verify if the Answer is correct by checking whether it satisfies the Quadratic Equation.
